Having made cutting-edge contributions to science for a decade, Microsoft Research India wanted to show that world-class research in computer science is possible in India and, in doing so, wanted to reinforce interest in research among Indian academia and media.

We created a book that conveys the expansiveness and importance of research via landscape metaphors, profiles of star researchers and impactful socioeconomic stories.

While designing, we made liberal use of fractals (epitomising infinity, the researcher’s final destination) and abstract imagery (conveying the complexity of the work involved).

The objective was to demystify the notion of research and make research concepts accessible to a lay reader.
